Teacher Notes

Activity 1:

  1. Set induction:

  • Firstly, you conduct the simulation following the pop-up instructions.
  • Ask students to observe the simulation (R1) when you are conducting it.
  • Now, have the students perform the simulation (R1) in groups.
  • Complete the table below in the simulation (R1) with the results.
  • The class can perform the experiment with physical materials (if possible).
  • You may continue by asking the students to think of real life examples where they might have observed this phenomenon.
  • Then introduce them to the other ways of transportation like diffusion and osmosis.


Activity 2: 

  1. Divide the class in groups of 5 students each and start PhET simulation on the IFP.
  2. You can make the changes to the set-up as indicated in the Activity Instructions.
  3. You may ask the students to discuss, note down the different set ups and predict the outcomes.
  4. This will help the students to understand movement of molecules.
  5. The same simulation can be used to demonstrate imbibition, diffusion and osmosis by changing the channels and molecule concentration.​​​​​​

Assessment: Activity 3​​​​​

  • You may ask the students to perform other activities of the textbook (p. 40-46)  in groups and note down their observations on the IFP.

  • Students can answer the MCQs in R6 either in groups or they can be randomly called out to respond.

  • Assessment tools like QCMCam can be used with the same questions.

  • The experiments can also be done in the laboratory if possible.
