Formation of an image by a plane mirror

Grade:

8

Subject:

Physical Sciences

Chapter:

6. Reflection of light by plane surfaces

Concepts:

Formation of an image by a plane mirror.( textbook pg no.87)

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the activity, students will be able to

  • Understand how a plane mirror forms an image, using the laws of reflection.

  • Understand the properties of the image formed by a plane mirror

( Refer to the textbook page number. 87-88)

Activity Instructions:

  • Move the object and observe the rays. The angles of incidence have changed. What about the angles of reflection?

  • Is the law of reflection still being followed?

  • Select the ‘Show Grid and Axes’ option.Measure the size of the object and the size of the image, using the grid. Are they the same?

  • Measure the distance of the object from the mirror and the distance of the image from the mirror, using the grid. Are they the same?

    Assessment:

    R2: Assessment during discussion:

  •  If a ray is incident on a plane mirror, what will be the angle of reflection? (textbook pg.90)

  • Why does the image mirror suffer lateral inversion? (textbook pg.90)

  • Respond to the questions given in the resource (R2).
